Fabrication Technology is a ‘hands-on’ course designed to teach students the process required to form and shape metal into useful items. The purpose of the course to give you experience with various tools and metals. You will learn some of the skills required to eventually become a machinist, welder, pipe fitter, sheet metal worker or become skilled hobbyist.
This course is based on 3 modules that must be successfully completed. Each module has a prerequisite. Only modules that are completed will have credit awarded.
The modules covered in this course will include:
FAB 1010 Fabrication Tools & Materials Prerequisite: none
Students develop knowledge and skills in the use of basic hand tools and materials used in the fabrication process and safely transform common metals into useful products.
Typical project includes drafting and construction of a drill and tap gauge.
Marks are based on:
Exam 30%, project 40%, assignments 20%, attitude 10%
FAB 1100 Fabrication Principles Prerequisite: FAB1010
Students investigate and apply fundamental principals of fabrication to build a metal project using bending, chemical, and/or mechanical methods.
Typical project includes drafting and basic metal forms.
Marks are based on:
Exam 30%, project 40%, assignments 20%, attitude 10%
FAB 1050 Basic Electric Welding Prerequisite: FAB1010
Students develop some basic skills related to safe use and operation of electric arc welding.
Typical project includes drafting and welding techniques.
Marks are based on:
Exam 30%, project 40%, assignments 20%, attitude 10%
Student supplied materials:
3 ring binder for handouts and notes
